Airbnb is switching Professional Hosts to the "Host Only Fee" model, bringing the total commission to 14-16% payable by the host, not the guest. Currently all Airbnb transactions add a service fee to the host AND the guest, and from 7th December this will be dropped for the host only fee which means all professional hosts will be adjusting their prices to include the 14-16% service charge in the fees, like you may already see with Booking.com and Expedia.

This does mean that 50% of Airbnb’s costs per night will go up!

Airbnb isn’t a holiday rental company, it’s a hotel chain. In fact, it’s the world’s biggest. Airbnb’s global inventory of seven million listings makes it bigger than the top-ten hotel chains combined, which has 5.48m guestrooms. In many markets, as many as half of the listings on Airbnb are advertised by hosts with at least one or more other listing, so classes as a professional host. As Airbnb continues to struggle due to the massive global down turn, this is a way of hiding the service fee from the guest, to apparently get 17% more bookings!
